Tiffany: I was looking at Isaiah 54:7 and read on to verse 8. Am I understanding this correctly? Does it say that God has outbursts of anger? (NAS) I don't know about you, but I breathed a big sigh knowing that even God has outbursts of anger. Then I see what He immediately follows up His anger with--everlasting lovingkindness and compassion! Cool!

Yes...absolutely God gets angry...but understand that his anger is righteous. His anger is because of an offense of HIM... Much like Jesus in the temple, his anger was because there was an offense against the Father.

When I think "outburst" I think uncontrolled, uncalculated...so I'm not thinking God acts in that way...but God does have anger, just as a Mom has anger at her child for not doing what is expected--or even more--what our children are capable of...Think of:

Noah and the Ark
Jonah
What we see in Isaiah

Just a few examples.

God IS LOVINGKINDNESS AND COMPASSION (His Goodness)...so any anger of God is always trumped with the very character of who he is!

Very cool.

I don't imagine God ever being in continual anger or going on screaming tirades as I have known myself to do. But it is encouraging to get a small picture of the intensity of this emotion that God expressed in this verse. I should not be surprise, as I'm sure everything He does is so intentional that it can be nothing less than intense. It is just so encouraging to me to see that in His Word.

It is amazing how much is wrapped up in God's goodness. Compassion is the one word I would add to your list, Tiffany, that really jumped out to me in the Scripture references. As God is preparing me for the impending changes in my marriage, He was very clear this week about continuing to have compassion for my husband. This doesn't change the decisions I'm making to take care of myself, but it is changing and clarifying my reasons for doing the things I'm doing and the spirit in which they will happen.

Now if I can meditate on these Scriptures throughout the day! Blessings to all!
